DanceWalk Down Main Street, Days 4 & 5

I took a brief hiatus from my “Dancing in the Streets” preparations to pick up Caitlin in Alabama and drive home with her.

You know you’re in Alabama when you ask about nearby dinner options and they are: Hardee's, a wings place attached to the gas station, and a Kabob place behind the gas station.

I passed, despite how tempting it was to buy wings or Kabobs from places so close to gas.

But it’s great to see Caitlin and I knew she’d be excited to see her dad DanceWalk. Caitlin: “What time are you doing it? Yeah, I can’t make it.”

Me: “But I didn’t tell you the time?”

I told her I’d wear a sandwich-board that would read: I’m Caitlin Roach’s dad. She’s so proud of me.

The 15-hour ride gave me a chance to fine-tune my playlist and to determine which parts of the 26 songs to play. The Stones will “Start Me Up,” and Journey will let everyone know “The Party’s Over.”

In between, I think Billy Idol describes best what I’ll be doing: “Dancing with Myself.”
