I didn’t need proof that I don’t “Dance the Night Away” to my downloaded songs, but my iTunes music list confirmed it.
I scrolled through my music Tuesday and saw that of the 42 songs I dropped onto my DanceWalk playlist for Saturday (now at 2 p.m. down Main Street), I’ve listened to just six of the danceable songs more than three times. Ever.
Genesis and Phil Collins nailed it for me: “I Can’t Dance.” (See 1:09 into the link for a horrible dance I can easily do.)
And the song I’ve played most often—37 times—sadly reminded me of the last time I danced: click to see the video Daniel and I made of Britney Spears’s “Baby One More Time."
If you consider the first dance at our wedding included a 10-year-old Caitlin cutely joining us halfway through, then I’ve danced alone more with Britney than Linda.
On Monday, when I wrote that I never dance, I clearly blocked out the Britney debacle just as Emeril Legasse maybe forgets his stint as a fry guy at Burger King.
On the plus side, I found songs that reminded me of dance moves I have to try, and ones I have to avoid. To try: see Mick Jagger’s “Wiggle like I have no spine” move from the 1981 Stones tour.
I’ll have to look for a banana-yellow pair of tights like Mick that I can wear Saturday. That should be a triple expresso jolt for the Yardley Starbucks crowd at the finish line.
One to avoid: check out the David Lee Roth “Karate-Chop the Moon” leg kick from the “Jump” video (at 1:15). I just pulled my hamstring watching it.
